The True Historics were Gibson’s top of the line Les Pauls, hand built in 2015-2016, with a few in 2017. Rumor has it that Gibson stopped production because they were too labor intensive and expensive to build. Although many of the True Historic specs now appear in later reissues, some features such as the hand sanded double-carved, body and neck and wet-sanded finish do not. Gibson chemically analyzed the plastics from the 50s and recreated the True Historic plastics using these specs with original tool marks, etc. Binding was given a soft roll and fret wire was also changed. Hide glue is used throughout. They are truly special instruments. The R8 on offer here is in near mint condition—not a mark on it. The top is finished in vintage dark burst with attractive figure. The CoA states 2015, but the serial number is 8 6001, so likely the first one made in 2016. Weight is 8.8 lbs. .97 at the 1st fret, 1.1 at the 12th fret. Complete with brown lifton hard case, CoA and all tags.
